The following PTA process is for the following course codes only: MSA, ARB, HEB, HIN, HND, PER, PUN, and URD. For all other ME/SA major and minor courses, please contact the home department for their PTA process.
What is a PTA used for?
Permission to Add (PTAs) codes are provided at the discretion of the instructor and/or the department. PTAs may be assigned:
- When seating space is available, but the course is closed to registration.
- To address a time conflict.
- To override prerequisites for a course (for example, placing into a course with a placement exam or proficiency exam).
Limitations of a PTA
PTAs cannot override unit caps for registration in Pass 1 or Pass 2.
Requesting a PTA
Contact the instructor for the course and explain reasoning as to why you need a PTA code. The instructor will coordinate issuing a PTA if approval is granted.
If a PTA has been issued:
- To use a PTA, enter both the section CRN and the PTA number in Schedule Builder.
- If you are on the waitlist for the same course, use the PTA and then drop the waitlisted course.
- The PTA can be used only once.
- A $3.00 fee is charged to the student account for late actions (after add course deadline).
For additional questions about requesting a PTA, please contact ME/SA Advising.
