Leila Easa, MFA, is a PhD candidate in English at the University of California, Davis whose research explores the way contemporary Palestinian American women poets understand their work in diaspora, especially in the context of war (both directly fought and silently strategized). How do these poets see their roles as activists, arbiters of discourse, and artists in light of the state of the place they identify as their “homeland”? Women in Palestine as well as Palestinian American women play a specific role in supporting resistance in a variety of ways, less often on the front lines and more through discourse-related campaigns. Given this, my particular inquiry examines gendered work as artistic and activist practice with a particular focus on the events on Fall ’23 through the end of 2024 and beyond.
