The Faris Saeed Lecture Series in Arab Studies

Professors Paul Amar, Beshara Doumani and Susan Miller will participate in a panel discussion on May 11th, 2011.

The ME/SA Program is proud to launch Arab Studies with the Faris Saeed Lecture Series in Arab Studies. On May 11th, the Technocultural Studies Building will play host to a panel discussion by distinguished scholars and academicians. The list of faculty and topics is as follows:

  • Paul Amar, Associate Professor of Global and International Studies at UC Santa Barbara, "The Radical Parahuman Subjects of Egypt's Revolution: New Perspectives on the Youth Movements, Police-Military Contentions and Sexualized Labor Behind the Arab Spring"
  • Beshara Doumani, Professor of History at UC Berkeley, "'The People Want': Historical Reflection on the Slogan of the Arab Revolutions"
  • Susan Miller, Associate Professor of History at UC Davis, "Libya: Failed Revolution?"

 The panel discussion will take place 5:00-7:00 pm, followed by refreshments 7:00-7:30 and a performance by ASWAT Bay Area Arabic Music Ensemble 7:30-8:00 pm.
