UC Davis Jewish Studies Program Presents:

SEMINAR

"Giving Voice to the Arab Jew:
Engaging Mizrahi Critics of Zionism"

In academic discussions of Jewish nationalism, Mizrahi (Arab Jewish) voices have, historically, been marginalized, if acknowledged at all. Thus, as Jewish Studies continues with one of our themes for this year (“Jewish Nationalism and its Critics”), this seminar will explore Mizrahi political thought. We will consider the complex, and often dissenting, stances that Arab Jews have taken in reaction to the rise of Jewish nationalism. By engaging Mizrahi voices, we hope to enrich our discussion of Jewish nationalism and to consider how these voices might inform political imaginaries for the future.

Tuesday, February 11, 2014
4-6pm
Andrews Conference Room (2203 SS&H)

Discussion of readings led by commentator Kfir Cohen (Comparative Literature, UC Berkeley) with moderator Rachel Feldman (Anthropology, UC Davis) and discussant Professor Susan Miller (History, UC Davis).
