  Mark Elmore (PhD. UC Santa Barbara, Religious Studies) is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies. His research examines a cluster of issues surrounding problematizations of religion in the wake of colonial control. His dissertation research explored the mutual constitution of religion and state in the Himalayas of northwest India. He is currently working on several interrelated projects including a book that developed from his dissertation, a co-edited volume on religion and colonialism, and a multiyear consultation at the American Academy of Religion. He is also working on a documentary film about the public debate over animal sacrifice in the Western Himalayas. More broadly, his research interests include tantric traditions, modernity/modernization, mediation, and theories of religion. Previously, he was assistant professor/faculty fellow in Religious Studies at New York Univeristy and assistant professor in Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of North Florida. His research has been funded by Fullbright-Hays, the Lilly Endowment, UC Ofice of the President, and the Muktabodha Indological Research Institute.
